Overview
These sessions are for schools within a 15 mile radius of Lullingstone Roman Villa. The Learning and Site team will review your booking to ensure it meets the criteria for the sessions. All bookings are provisional until confirmed by a member of the team.

Discover what life was like at Lullingstone Roman Villa for its wealthy owners and the people who worked there. This interactive workshop delivered in your classroom, gives students the chance to get hands on with real and replica objects. They use close looking skills to analyse the objects and piece together replica artefacts to help them understand life in a Roman villa.

Is there a distance limit for schools booking this sessions?
Yes - to be eligible, schools should normally be located within a 15-mile radius of the site. If you are unsure whether your school falls within this area, or if you are located slightly further away, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your enquiry.
What Key Stage is this session aimed at?
The session is designed for Key Stage 2 learners.
How many children can take part in each sessions? How many adults need to be present?
The workshops are designed for groups of approximately 30 children per session. At least one teacher must be present at all times.
Do you have any specific classroom or space requirements for the outreach sessions?
We can adapt the session to suit a range of classroom layouts and teaching spaces. During the activity, we divide the class into 8 smaller groups, so we ask that teachers help organise the children into these groups before the session begins.
For schools booking consecutive sessions, we are also able to move between classrooms during break times if needed, provided the rooms are located on the same campus/site.

How long are the outreach sessions and what times are available?
Each outreach session lasts approximately 1 hour. Schools can choose from three available session start times: 9:30, 10:45, or 13:30.
Where multiple sessions are required, these will be booked consecutively. Sessions are scheduled using these set time slots to allow for breaks between sessions and to fit around children’s lunch breaks.

Do schools need to provide any materials or equipment?
No — we provide all the materials needed to deliver the outreach session.
We do ask whether the school has access to an interactive whiteboard or projector, as we use a PowerPoint presentation during the session. Once a booking has been confirmed, we can email the presentation to the school in advance.

What information will schools need to provide before the session?
Before the session takes place, we will ask schools to provide some information regarding parking and access arrangements so that the facilitator can prepare and arrive in a timely manner.
This includes:
• Whether there is on-site parking available and how to access it
• Details of nearby off-site parking, if required
• Where the facilitator should report to upon arrival
• The location of toilets
• The location of a staff or break room if a lunch break will be needed during the visit.

Who delivers the sessions and are staff DBS checked?
Sessions are delivered by our expert staff. The main facilitator is DBS checked, however some additional staff may not be. English Heritage staff will always follow relevant policies and procedures but we ask that schools ensure members of their staff are always present during sessions.
Are sessions accessible for children with additional needs?
Our sessions have been designed to be flexible in order to accommodate children with additional needs. Please speak to us in advance to discuss any potential adjustments that may need to be made.

Will there be dressing up/ will the facilitator be in costume?
No — the facilitator will not be dressing up, and dressing up is not included as part of the outreach session due to time constraints and transportation limitations.
However, if your school would like pupils to dress up for the session, or use it as an additional classroom activity, this is definitely encouraged and can be a great way to support learning and engagement!

How do we pay?
Payment will be made via invoice after the outreach session has taken place.
