Audley End Guidebook

This guidebook offers a complete tour and history of the magnificent house and gardens of Audley End and discusses the lives of its occupants, including the many servants who worked here. Built on a vast scale by Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk, between 1605 and 1614, Audley End was one of the greatest houses of Jacobean England. Subsequent owners found it too large and parts of it were demolished. During the 18th and 19th centuries the family transformed the building and its gardens, and today it appears largely as it did following renovations in the 1820s. Throughout the guide are maps, plans, reconstruction drawings and even watercolours done a one of the family, capturing her family at home in everyday life.
