Vermeer’s Guitar Player – A Concert by Saraband
Overview
Celebrating Double Vision, a new display at Kenwood which invites you to compare Vermeer’s The Guitar Player with a related painting from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Saraband's brilliant guitarist Johan Löfving, has an instrument identical to the one in the painting and he will play music that was popular with refined and accomplished Dutch ladies of the late seventeenth century.
The wider musical scene will be set up by the whole quartet with music from Italy, France and England as well as Dutch popular tunes that Vermeer may well have heard in 'The Flying Fox' tavern in Delft where he was brought up.
The concert is seated in the Music Room at Kenwood House. There are two identical performances for 45 minutes at 1pm and 2.30pm.
